Lantana

Nestled between Lake Worth Beach and Boynton Beach in Palm Beach County, Lantana offers home buyers the elusive charm of a classic, laid-back South Florida coastal town. Unlike some of its high-density, heavily commercialized neighbors, Lantana retains an inviting, Old Florida neighborhood atmosphere defined by tree-lined streets, waterfront views, and a relaxed, community-focused pace.

For home buyers, Lantana presents a diverse housing landscape. Architectural styles range from charming 1950s ranch-style homes and classic Key West cottages to modern waterfront estates along the Intracoastal Waterway. Waterfront buyers are drawn to properties with private docks, easy boat access, and sweeping views of the water, while those looking inland find accessible single-family neighborhoods, mid-century condos, and quiet townhome communities. The town’s coastal proximity means residents are rarely more than a few minutes’ drive—or a brief bike ride—from public beach parks, local seafood spots, and waterfront parks along the Intracoastal.

Key Facts About Lantana, Florida

  • Early History: Settlement began after the Armed Occupation Act of 1842 following the Seminole Wars. The family of M.B. Lyman is credited with founding the town in the late 19th century.

  • Origin of the Name: The town was named after the wild, colorful Lantana shrubs that grew abundantly in the area when the first post office was established in the late 1800s.

  • Maritime Heritage: In the early 20th century, Lantana was a booming fishing community, with oyster harvesting serving as its primary industry. That coastal heritage lives on today through local waterfront dining and active boating culture.

Lantana occupies a strategic sweet spot along the Palm Beach County coast, positioning residents almost equidistant between two of South Florida’s most dynamic urban centers while retaining its own distinct, low-key character. Downtown West Palm Beach and the Donald J Trump International Airport or located about a 15-20 minute drive to the north.  Downtown Delray Beach is approximately the same distance to the South where you will find the famed Atlanta Avenue and high-energy dining scene.
