Serving as the county seat of Haywood County, Waynesville , NC is its largest town and is just 30 minutes away from the city of Asheville, the cultural and commercial hub of Western North Carolina. Known as the “Gateway to the Smokies,” the town is right where the Great Smoky Mountains branch out from the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina.

Incorporated in 1810, the town is considered to be one of the largest metropolitan areas in the state. It was founded by Colonel Robert Love after the American Revolution, who named the town after his commanding officer, the legendary General “Mad” Anthony Wayne.

You are never far from the great outdoors in Waynesville, NC. The Pisgah National Forest, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway surround the town, offering breathtaking scenery and an exciting escape to nature.

  • One of Waynesville’s most treasured areas is the Frog Level Historic District. Here, you’ll find 16 buildings that were built in the iconic Romanesque architectural style and are mostly made with red bricks. The district was registered under the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
