The village of Flat Rock, NC  in Henderson County encompasses a total area of 7.9 square miles, and is home to more than 3,000 permanent residents. The village was built on an area containing a large amount of granite, on a site known to be used by the Cherokee Indians as well as early traders. The area’s largest rock is mostly flat, hence the name “Flat Rock.” Parts of this rock can still be seen on the grounds of the Flat Rock Playhouse today.
